Your modem ensures your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can bring Internet into your house. Your router is directly connected to your modem, and makes sure that you can access the Internet wireless (through WiFi). Because your router provides access to all devices in your house that are connected to the Internet, you want to make sure it is safe and secure.
- Change the default username and password (this is generally admin / admin) for the Belkin Router, Linksys Router, or Asus Router
- Change the default WiFi name (SSID) and password to access your Internet for the Belkin Router, Linksys Router, or Asus Router
- Optional: Make sure your router is set to WPA2 mode and uses AES encryption (this is generally enabled by default). You can check this while you're in your routers Settings.
- Optional: Use a VPN
- Optional: Create seperate accounts for visitors and IoT devices for the Belkin Router, Linksys Router, or Asus Router
