How can I protect my Financial Data?

Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion are the three major credit bureaus (also known as Credit Reporting Agencies) in the US. They do not only have access to a lot of your financial information, but are also responsible for determining your credit score. It is important to make sure your financial information always remains private and secure.

REVIEW YOUR DATA

By requesting a credit report you can check what financial information these agencies have on you, and you can dispute anything that is incorrect. You can request one free credit report per year from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion here.

FREEZE YOUR CREDIT

You can also add a security freeze with all three credit reporting agencies, by following the instructions in the links below.

Add a credit freeze with:

  • Equifax
  • Experian
  • TransUnion

General guidelines:

  • As soon as you learn that someone has stolen your identity, contact the FTC and report identity theft. To do so, click here.
