In addition to a safe and secure password, it is advisable to use a second way to authenticate yourself. This is called 2-factor authentication (2FA) or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). When you manage your password settings, it will give you the option to use 2FA. There are several options you have to set this up:
- Authenticator: an authenticator creates a new code every few seconds, that only you can see when you're in the app. You can then enter this code into the website you're trying to access. This method is safer than using text messages or email. Here are two good authenticators apps you can use for 2FA:
- Text message or email: the website will send you a text message or email, each time you wish to sign in to your account.
Please be aware that if someone has access to your text messages (e.g. when you're logged in iMessage, and text messages are send to multiple devices) or email (when you're logged into your email on multiple devices), they will also be able to use the code that was sent to you, to get into whatever website you're trying to access.
